Bulgaria ranks second in EU for economic growth rate

GDP Growth: Bulgaria's Gross Domestic Product increased by 2.9% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year. On a quarterly basis, the economy recorded a 0.7% increase.

With this economic progress, Bulgaria outperforms almost the entire EU, where average growth is just 0.1% on a quarterly basis. The only country in the union with higher annual growth for the period is Cyprus (3%).

The positive dynamics are mainly driven by high domestic consumption, which grew by nearly 7%, combined with a stable increase in total investments in the economy by around 8%.
