The euro becomes the official currency in Bulgaria from January 1, 2025

On July 8, the Council of the European Union officially approved Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone on January 1, 2026, and set an exchange rate of 1.95583 leva to 1 euro, which is also the current official euro/lev rate of the Bulgarian National Bank. Thus, Bulgaria becomes the 21st member of the eurozone. The euro is now on the rise due to Donald Trump's economic unpredictability, which weakens confidence in the dollar and at the same time strengthens confidence in the euro. The switch from lev to euro will save millions in currency transaction costs and will be of great benefit, especially to businesses and people who travel. The positive effects are already noticeable with the increase in Bulgaria's credit rating.
